Hytale Survival Guide: First Day
Essential tips for surviving your first day in Hytale. From spawn to setting up your first base.
Spawn Location: Gate of the Echo
You spawn inside a structure called the Gate of the Echo in the Emerald Wilds (Zone 1). Look for candles that can be activated by hitting them.
- Early Access includes Exploration Mode only (Adventure Mode coming later)
- Collect green mushrooms and interact with environment objects near spawn
- Look for Rubble on the ground - these can be picked up directly without mining
Priority #1: Build a Campfire
Campfire Recipe:
9 Sticks → Campfire (crafted via TAB menu, no workbench needed)
The campfire serves as your home base marker. It has a special function to "Declare a place home" which is essential for survival.
Campfire Uses:
- Cooking: Place Wild Meat → get Cooked Wild Meat + Charcoal
- Fuel: Requires wood logs (e.g., Redwood Log) to keep burning
- Territory: Marks your claimed area
Gathering Resources
Tree Chopping
- Cut the bottom of trees to trigger collapse
- Entire tree falls down (physics-based)
- One large tree ≈ 45 Sticks
- Also drops: Logs, Plant Fiber
Ground Resources
- Rubble: Pick up directly (no mining)
- Berries: Low healing, emergency food
- Wheat/Carrots: Wait for "mature" indicator
- Essence of Life: From plants, used for trading
Setting Up Your Respawn Point
Crude Bedroll Recipe:
Requires Light Hide (from rabbits, horses, or cows)
- Crude Bedroll sets your respawn point
- Allows you to skip the night
- Hunt passive animals for Light Hide if needed

Common First Day Mistakes
Exploring Too Far
Set up your campfire and bedroll FIRST. Dying far from spawn with no respawn point means a long walk back.
Fighting at Night
Skeletons spawn at night and are tough for new players. Use bedroll to skip night until you have better gear.
Ignoring Food
Collect berries constantly while exploring. Even low healing adds up - you'll need it for your first combat encounters.
Not Marking Home
Use the campfire's "Declare a place home" function. Without this, respawning can be disorienting.
First Day FAQ
How do I find Light Hide for the bedroll?
Kill passive animals like rabbits, horses, or cows. They drop Light Hide which is used to craft the Crude Bedroll for setting your respawn point.
What should I craft first?
Priority order: Crude Pickaxe (for mining) → Campfire (home base) → Bedroll (respawn) → Crude Hand Axe (faster gathering). You can craft the first three without a workbench.
Where do I find copper ore?
Look for cave entrances on hillsides in Zone 1. Copper ore spawns in underground caves - bring torches! You'll need a Crude Pickaxe minimum to mine it.
