Should I skip tiers?
Generally no. Each tier unlocks mining the next ore type. However, you can skip Copper if you find Iron quickly since the jump from Crude to Iron is manageable.
Which tool should I upgrade first?
Pickaxe first - it unlocks new ore types. Then weapon for combat. Axe and shovel can wait since they mainly affect gathering speed, not capability.
Where is Adamantite?
Adamantite spawns rarely in Zone 2 mountains. It's the rarest ore and end-game material. Don't farm for it specifically - find it while gathering Thorium.
